Roxann Steelman
Roxann Steelman is an Associate Attorney with Schoffstall Elder Law and her work is focused on assisting clients with elder and special needs planning, guardianships, estate planning and estate administration. Roxann is a member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA) and a member of the Pennsylvania Association of Elder Law Attorneys (PAELA). She is admitted to practice before the Pennsylvania Supreme Court and the Pennsylvania Eastern and Western U.S. District Courts.
Roxann has always had her sights set on practicing in the area of elder law and is thrilled to be a part of the Schoffstall Elder Law team. Prior to joining Schoffstall Elder Law, Roxann practiced in the areas of wills and estates, personal injury, municipal law, land use, zoning matters, Workers’ Compensation, Right-To-Know Law and the Sunshine Act. She was also a Solicitor for multiple municipalities.
Roxann graduated from Frostburg State University, cum laude, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Wildlife and Fisheries Biology and a minor in general biology. She was chosen to be the Student Speaker representing the College of Arts and Sciences during the 137th Commencement Ceremony. She received her Master of Arts in Environmental Policy Design from Lehigh University in Bethlehem, PA, where she researched and wrote her Thesis entitled, “The Effects of Marcellus Shale Natural Gas Development on Hunting, Fishing, and Other Recreational Activities Throughout Pennsylvania.” During her time at Lehigh, Roxann was a Research Assistant with the Teaching, Learning & Technology Program in the Dept. of Education, and the Environmental Initiative. The results of the research she was involved in were published in the Journal of Geoscience Education. Roxann received her Juris Doctor degree from Vermont Law School, where she was awarded the VLS Academic Excellence Award in Legal Research. She was also a staff editor on the Vermont Journal of Environmental Law and wrote her Note entitled, “Bypassing Protection Through Exemption: Aren’t Wild Bird Protection Laws Supposed to Protect?”
During law school Roxann was a Student Clinician in the South Royalton Legal Clinic where she counseled Vermont residents in areas such as estate planning, social security disability, Veteran’s affairs, children’s rights, domestic violence, immigration, family law, landlord/tenant-housing issues and bankruptcy. She also interned with the Vermont Agency of Natural Resources, the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office, and the Northampton County Office of the Public Defender.
Roxann is originally from Virginia; while attending Frostburg State she participated in a trip to Hawk Mountain, fell in love with Pennsylvania and has remained here since. She and her husband, Walter, a Pennsylvania native, reside in Northampton County with their 2 fur-babies. They are active birders and hikers and love to travel everywhere to add new birds to their life lists.
